Naturally Brighter Limited and its Directors take very seriously its obligations and responsibilities under Health and Safety and related legislation. Our objective is to provide employees with a safe working environment and a safe and rewarding system of work.

Naturally Brighter Limited regularly reviews working practices, including the general working environment to ensure that best practices are adhered to or adopted and that safety hazards are identified and accidents as far as reasonably practicable avoided.

Health and Safety guidance is given to all new employees upon joining the employer and regular refresher sessions are held for existing employees.  The employer requires the full co-operation and participation of each employee.

Assessment on each site where employees are required to work are carried out to identify the risks that may be associated with the works.  Safe methods of work are then proposed to minimise the risk to the employee and others in the working area.

Employees too have Safety responsibilities, which are not confined to the employer or its Safety Officer.  All employees are obliged to take reasonable care for his or her own safety and for the others who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions and to co-operate fully with the employer in the arrangements it makes in relation to Health and Safety matters.  For example employees must:-

  • Adhere to the precise safe system of working
  • Report any safety concerns immediately to the employer

Safety Officer

The employer appoints a Manager with responsibility as safety officer to ensure that the employer is at all times aware of and fully complies with its obligations under Health and Safety law.

Note: Guidance is also taken from the proposed – New – working at height regulations

All accidents and near misses irrespective of triviality must be reported to the Safety Officer who will ensure that any necessary preventative measures are introduced.

Evacuation

All employees should be familiar with the evacuation procedure details of which will be displayed throughout the building where they are working.

Any employee who discovers a fire should immediately sound the fire alarm and notify the senor staff present.

First Aid

All accidents must be recorded in the accident book. Staff will be notified which member of staff has training in First Aid. If any employee becomes ill while at work and requires medical attention arrangements will be made to call a doctor or emergency services or take the employee to Accident and Emergency at the nearest hospital.

Hazards and Safety Risks

All employees have a responsibility to report any potential Health and Safety hazard including infectious or other diseases, accidents or injuries associated with the workplace.

Examples as follows:

  • Fire risks e.g. accumulation of combustible waste, blocking or obstruction of fire doors, corridors, or smoking in non-smoking areas.
  • Electrical problems (e.g. worn cables, loose connections, multiple connectors to power sockets, faulty wiring or trailing cables).
  • Defective equipment
  • Defective flooring (e.g. worn or frayed carpets, uneven or slippery surfaces).
  • Unsuitable loading or stacking
  • Broken glass
  • Carelessness by an employee or other person on the premises (e.g. attempting to repair equipment without proper training).

Improvements

Employees are encouraged to suggest improvements to the Health and safety Policy and suggestions should be made to the Safety Officer.

Discipline

Any breach or non-observance of the employers Health and Safety policy constitutes a disciplinary offence in respect of which you may in an appropriate case be dismissed.

General Employer Aims

So far as reasonably practicable the employer aims to achieve the following:

  • Premises heated to the minimum temperature by law
  • Safe equipment and systems
  • Safe methods of handling, storage and transport of articles or goods
  • Provide employees with information, instruction and training.
  • Provide employees with a site specific Method Statement & Risk Assessment.
  • Ensure the place of work is safe with means of access and egress.
  • Provide a safe working environment
  • All storage areas are safely laid out with adequate room for access in safety
